Marnhull Men’s Shed was founded in March 2018 following a village meeting attended by more than 40 potential “shedders”. Patrick Abrahams from the Frome Shed explained the concept of a “Men’s Shed” and some of the projects they had undertaken. This received an enthusiastic response; a decision was made to go ahead to form our own shed and volunteers came forward to form a steering committee. Our biggest problem was finding suitable premises, and we were very grateful to be offered accomodation at King’s Mill Court on the outskirts of the village. We joined the UK Men’s Shed Association and secured funding from Dorset POPP, Healthwatch Dorset and the ASDA/RVS Sheds Foundation. What is a Men’s Shed? ….. a community space for men to connect, converse and create. The activities are often similar to those of garden sheds, but for groups of men to enjoy together. They help reduce loneliness and isolation, but most importantly, they’re fun
The shed is now open for regular winter sessions and for members to pursue their own projects. Sessions are on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons 2pm to 5pm.
